Planning: Calthorpe House, Calthorpe Street

Despite significant opposition from a number of elected members, CDC’s Planning Committee granted Outline consent for the demolition and redevelopment of Oxfordshire County Council’s 1960s Social Services offices in Calthorpe Street. This speculative application was for a large 4-storey block containing 13 flats over one or more retail units, made by OCC in an attempt to elevate the value of the soon to be vacant site. The Society did not object to this ‘in principle’ application, but we will fight hard against any subsequent detailed application if it is considered harmful or out of keeping with the area.
